Dana Reynolds - Schopenhauer
After reading the chapter on Schopenhauer in the Nature of Art book, I came to the conclusion that he had a very depressing view on life. It doesn’t seem to fit with my reasoning that life should be that depressing if he thinks that everything that happens does so for some reason. He also believes in individuation – that every individual is distinct from every other individual, but it doesn’t really matter since the Will unites everyone. I also recall our discussion about him in class and talking about how all siblings ultimately want each other to die because they’re all competing for the same resources. I definitely have seen this first hand, as I have 6 brothers, and dinnertime was always a race to see who got what first.
