Schopenhauer's philosophy on art is simple: art reveals the true nature of reality proving its existence. Schopenhauer uses the term "Ideas" as archetypes of things, art representing the idea behind the visual. He continues to argue that artists as a "genius," a person who has the ability to to disconnect from himself in order to create a realistic and objective view of the subject. I would have to disagree being that all artists represent their work based on personally biases. Early I posted depictions of Guadalupe. The Mexican version of the Virgin Mary, the European and traditional Mary at the time had blonde hair and blue eyes, she had pale skin and a heavenly look about her. Raphael painted many versions of Mary and she was a blonde, very European looking woman, while the painting by Miguel Cabrera (the painter) shows Mary as a dark skinned figure with brown hair and eyes, a very native to Mexico-type feel. So would Schopenhauer argue that Cabrera and Raphael are not genius? I guess they would not be, but then is the Virgin Mary real because no one in the modern day has seen her and portrayed her?
