In The Nature of Art, we learn that Heidegger says “The art work opens up in its own way the Being of beings. This opening up, i.e., this deconcealing, i.e., the truth of beings, happens in the work”. We looked at different types of architecture in the class, especially that of Cathedrals in Europe. The height of them really do deconceal the vastness of space around us. It gives us foreground and background to give is better understanding of how vast the Heavens are.

I would often think of this when I am in Washington DC. When I look up at the Washington Monument I am amazed to see how this structure reaches up into the sky to try and touch it. But in its effort to do so it somehow is able to make the sky grow even farther away. It deconceals the vast depth of space around us.
