Taylor Quinn, Outside Reading, Psalm 6, 3/30/11
We studied poetry in the class when we were learning about the Word as art. We learned that poetry is like religion because it binds us with the holy. Poetry calls the human world into existence and it calls the human world into being. The importance of Word has to do with its rhythm and the image it creates.
I read a poem called “O Lord, Deliver My Life” it was written by David in Psalm chapter 6. There is a part in the poem that really gets me with the imagery it brings up. It is Psalm 6:6-7 “am weary with my groaning; All night I make my bed swim; I drench my couch with my tears. My eye wastes away because of grief; It grows old because of all my enemies”. The imagery paints a very real picture of what the poet is feeling.
