Adam Rasmussen: Voice as an Instrument
Today in class we listened to a song in Latin. I had never really thought about it but Kip pointed out that because none of us know Latin, the singers voice is just another instrument. It is interesting to think about the voice as just an instrument of sound rather than conveying a message. I don’t really ever listen to music in other languages. It reminds me of the scene in the Shawshenk Redemption, where Andy puts on the Italian music over the loud speaker and it causes all work in the prison to stop. Everyone is sucked in by the voice, they are one. The narrator comments that he didn’t even want to know what the lady was singing about, it was more beautiful just admiring her voice.
