Caleb Henderson The Bible-outside reading
I was recently reading James 1 and noted how powerful it is when the bible uses parallels with natures fury to symbolize something. "But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do." These three verses show the importance of truly believing when you come to God with a request, and the man who comes to God with doubt is like a wave of the sea. Everyone knows the beauty of an ocean wave on a stormy day, it is unpredictable in every way, as well as graceful. The only problem with waves are they all come crashing down. The symbolism here is the man who does not truly believe will be seemingly doing things right, but eventually the doubt will come to the forefront of their character, and they will fall apart, just like the wave.
