In Sacred and Profane Beauty Van Der Leeus says dance is the most powerful form of art in one of the most basic forms that art can come in. He says the art of beautiful motion is far and away the oldest art form there is. In class, we watched a video of different cultures doing different forms of dancing where people were jumping around and spinning in circles. They seemed to be doing the most random things in a state of trance. The way it was art was because they were unified in what they were doing, and it was very ritualized.
I feel that dance and motion are an art in my life. I am not a dancer or anything, but to listen to music, and I am incapable of listening to music without some part of my body moving to a rhythm. I feel that in a way I am capable of becoming one with music as I move to the music, and find emotional attachments to certain ritualistic motions.
