Danielle Kearney-Food and Art 2/16/11

Painting a picture involves an idea, paint supplies, brush strokes and talent. Baking involves an idea, ingredients, stirring, mixing, pouring, reading and learning. Pictures are considered art more often than cooking because they remain, whereas once food is consumed, all that remains is a memory and satisfaction. I think that a painting is art because of the pleasure it brings to its viewers. Food creates the same pleasure. Food is something that is needed to survive, where as a picture is something that just brings extra happiness. Some people make food to survive. Other people make it because they love to. The food that the chief can share with friends, the time, and effort and love that he or she put into making the food truly brings him or her happiness. There are secondary schools for individuals who want to become chiefs. Cake decoration classes are available at local craft stores, such as Michaels. Decorating cakes takes lessons and a lot of practice. A cake is a primary part of many cultural celebrations such as birthdays, graduations and weddings. A wedding cake is a primary part of the celebration. This wedding cake is a perfect example of how food is art. It is something that was planned, created and will be remembered forever.
