Danielle Kearney- Songs and Poems 3/23/11

Today in class, we listened to love songs and poems. Most of the love songs were either sad or revengeful and angry but still showed a little bit of remorse. Listening to these songs made me think, why? If we are the most superior intelligent species why are we so eager to get into relationships that we know will end in pain? There are few other species that mate for life but we are not genetically disposed to. In one of the interviews we listened to today the man said that years ago he would have been in a tribe and things would have been different. The only conclusion that I could come up with to my question was that our primary motivator fear makes one of our primary goals love. If we are in love we are suppose to be protected. We have someone to share our best and worst times. Years ago people were in tribes therefore they had people with them to protect them all the time. As tribes grew into towns then expanded into cities people lost that close-knit group. People still have their families but each member of the family has an individual life so they do not experience everything together. With the social networks today people have a ridiculous amount of connections but no pack therefore people put themselves out there to be hurt.
