In class we have discussed how humans have a natural desire to be connected with beauty. As I reflected on this notion, I realized that my family’s annual summer trip to the Outer Banks is more than just a vacation. Our visits to the beach allow my family to be connected with the natural beauty of the ocean. When I close my eyes, I can hear the rhythm of the ocean as the cool blue waves crash onto the shore. I can feel the rays of sun kissing my face, and the sand between my toes.
Before taking this class, I never would have thought of the common practice of taking vacations as an example of the human desire to experience and be in the presence of beauty. I feel that this year when I go to the beach with my family, I will be able to more fully appreciate the natural wonders that surround me.
