Plain was the same as it ever was the same.
Plainly plain…
Samely same…
But then…someone lit the flame.
Plain rode away on lion’s mane.
Where plain met fruits with strangely names.
Such wonderful things they did contain.
A shot of life to a hungry vein.
The captive beast who broke the chain.
And there upon that fruited plane,
is where plain became what plain became.
So much more than more than plain.
Plain will never be the same.
I read this poem and I think, "Wow, what an interesting poem." I feel inspired to go out and change the world, to never settle for anything "plain" or anything "boring" but to fight for something better. "A shot of life to a hungry vein," gives the sense of something powerful and full of adrenalin. A push to move forward and reach for the unattainable. I find this poem so intriguing but in reality this was written for Fage yogurt to put in their commercial. Ironically I did buy some Fage Greek yogurt, but I also wrote down the poem. It was written by an advertisement company called Mullen.
So once this poem is placed in its original context does it still hold the inspirational meaning? I'd have to argue yes, because whether this piece is discussing yogurt or if someone is reading it aloud on the street, it is still beautiful. When taken out of its context it still makes conceptual sense. I am not confused, I am not lost in the words, but I understand and I am enthralled by the beat of poem. Each poem has a heart beat and this poem has a strong one.
