Kelly Barry- Dream World

What if the world we wake up to every morning is not real? The alarm clock, the bowl of cereal, the red light; all of these are just projections of the mind to get us through the day. Now before this starts sounding like a remake of the Matrix, let me explain.
What if the real world is taking place in our minds when we sleep? In dreams?
Have you ever had a dream you thought had to be real ? Some years ago, I had a dream that I was in a medieval dungeon and someone cut my head off. I "woke up" with a sense of freight, hoping my head was still attached to my body. Refusing to look in the mirror or touch my face, I considered the plausibility of this being reality. When I forgot this for just a second, and scratched my eye brow, my fears dispersed, realizing I still had my head.
What if dreaming is reality and waking up is the illusion? Since we spend a good portion of our lives sleeping, what if our conception of this world is just a misunderstanding of reality and consciousness?
The power of the mind can be easily overlooked when we dismiss our dreams as reality simply because we woke up. While we are dreaming, certainly, everything is real. Whether we're breathing under water, being chased by a dog or robbing a bank, for the time we are dreaming, we are enveloped in that reality. Is it naive then to write off our dreams as illusion based on the concept that "it could never be true"? Are we just buying into the lie more fully by doing so?
While this probably isn't the case, it's an interesting point to consider, and a fun one at that. Suppose you could bring your dream self to this world which we believe is real. What would he/she be able to do? Would the fears come along with it? Why is it that when we are woken from a dream we forget it so easily? Or if we do remember it for the first moment upon waking, we can never fall into the same dream by going back to sleep?
