Sarah Ward: Child-like Faith

The other night before dinner, my four year old cousin, Sydney, asked to say the prayer before dinner. Her prayer went something like this:

"Dear God,
Thank you for the food that we're eating tonight. Thank you for puppies and kitties and thank you for Mommy, Daddy, Sarah, Victoria and Jordan (her sisters). Please help all of the people in Japan and please help the puppies and kitties all alone in Japan. Amen."

She told me later that she wanted everybody in Japan to be okay and that God was going to take care of it. After hearing this prayer, I was amazed at the amount of faith that this little girl had. She prayed so hard and put all of her faith and trust in the idea that God would deliver the people of Japan from their trials and tribulations.

Thinking about it, we should all demonstrate this childlike faith. In order to truly display childlike faith, one must have trust, authenticity, humility, contentment, and humbleness. If everyone displayed these attributes, our world would be a better place. This concept just amazed me. If these young children can grasp this concept, why can't we as adults? At what point in life does this concept begin to fade away into the mindset that adults have? Faith is the foundation for the future. If we train our children to have this mindset, future generations can change the world for the better.
