John Scott- Art is found in the Trinity

In the last chapter of Van Der Leeuw’s book he brings all aspects of God’s character back to the three persons of God. This is an absolutely beautiful parallel. Van Der Leeuw believes that these art forms give us a new expression and new side of God that we would never have seen before. He relates Dance and Drama to God the Father for he is sovereign and is the one who lovingly creates and sustains all things. Just how a drama and dance takes time and progresses so does the Father’s creative will manifest itself in the universe. My soul truly resonates with his understanding of art with God the Son. The Word and Image of God are manifest in God the Son. He is also the one who builds the Building (which is the church and the house of God on earth). Jesus has come as the Word and Image of God bringing a message of redemption. The words that God has given remind us of the words that we are able to say and should say to bring redemption to the world. The image of God is the forming and transforming ourselves into the sanctified man or woman we are supposed to come. Through this, Christ is speaking to us and building his church. The prophecy of him tearing down the temple and rebuilding it in three days was as accurate as it was art. Music speaks of the Spirit of God. Music is intangible and is ethereal. It is above and transcendent. The same is with the Spirit of God. He like music, exalts the word and then smashes it with an experience beyond our understanding and belief. I really appreciate Van Der Leeuw’s interpretation of art as the three persons of God. It is truly enlightening.
