Jasmine Washington: David Hume ~Art as object of Taste~
I agree with Hume when he says that there is some art in this world that just happens to please all human beings. I also agree that art should be subjective and that it should not face any objective criticism. People will always have different views, in that that is why we are all different! One cannot experience a piece of art the same as another. The sentiments of men often differ with regard to beauty and deformity of all kinds, even while their general discourse is the same (p. 40).Everyone has different perspectives. We may agree that something may be beautiful but we clearly see through different eyes which entitles a stream of different emotions. But though all the general rules of art are founded only on experience and on the observation of the common sentiments of human nature, we must not imagine, that, on every occasion, the feelings of men will be conformable to these rules (p 43).
