Il est très gentil, mon collègue. Je l'aime bien.
He is very nice, my colleague. I like him.
Il aime nager en chaussures de sport, rien que des espadrilles.
He likes to swim in sneakers, nothing but sneakers.
Je t'aime de tout mon cœur, avec tout mon corps, Je t'aime à la folie.
I love you with all my heart, with all my body, I love you madly.
The beauty in this comes from the unexpected. The first line is a very commonplace, stale statement. The next line is odd and a little unsettling, and then the last line is pure passion. The addition of French also adds a flourish. French is said to be the language of love, and is very beautiful on paper and aloud. Reading this part within a book with its own story line really struck me and the only feeling I could name was beauty. It’s a kind of emotional beauty that has little to do with physical appearance and more to do with the fact that it makes you feel beautiful for having read it.
