I have found myself asking whether movies can be considered a form of art. Although the definition of art in general is difficult and subjective, I wonder if movies can count as form of art. And if they do qualify, would documentaries count as well? Not like Planet Earth which is filmed in a pretty "artistic" way to portray the beauty of nature, but even the plainest documentaries. Could they be art solely due to the fact that they capture the "beauty" of nature? Can any kind of film, say a James Bond movie, count as art?
I'm inclined to think that movies focused on a higher intellectual or emotional reaction may be considered art, moreso than blockbuster flicks. Now that I think about it, films can and often capture all of the forms of art that we addressed in class- imagery, dance, music, words, etc. However, this is still a tricky subject.
