Julia Craig: American Beauty: The Bag in the Wind

At one point during the semester, we watched a small segment on the movie American Beauty. The portion we watched was when the young man was showing his friend a video clipping he had taken. The whole video was shots of a bag floating in the wind. They just sat there and stared at it in awe. The wind was just tossing the bag around. It makes you question whether you are just a bag being tossed around in the wind. It makes me wonder whether we really have any control over our lives. The guy filming had an encounter while filming. It appeared to just be a bag floating in the wind but to the guy filming, the bag was the median between a being and the guy. I really enjoyed this class in particular because it left me really questioning what is real and not real. The bag was real and we are real but was the being or wind pushing the bag real? Or are we really real? What makes something real? I was not having an encounter because I immediately questioned it although I thoroughly enjoyed the video.
