If someone is ever trying to find me during the week, they should always know that there is a certain time that I am always able to be located. Weekdays. @ 12:30pm. One can find me glued to the television set, watching what is going on with my dear friends, in Genoa City, Wisconsin. Yes, that's right it is a soap opera. And dear friends? Why Yes. I have watched most of these characters grow as a person, get married, get divorce, have children and sleep with their lover's brother, YOU NAME IT, for 10 years. I guess my mother will have to take the blame for this one. She would always record it on to a VHS, hence 10 years, while she was at work and when she got home she'd watch it as she made our snack. My sister and I still enjoy it today. My bother and father have always hated it. My little brother, unbeknownst to him, loved falling asleep to the intro theme song to The Young and The Restless some times, refusing to go to sleep without it. It was destiny. The Ward family has to love Genoa City and its inhabitants.
Some say that people who watch soap operas have no lives and love the drama because they can not find it in their own lives. While the first is definitely true, I do not even want to think of the countless hours I have spent watching Y&R and all the classes I did not take because they interfered with Y&R's view hours, and the second is definitely true as well. I PRAY that I never go through have the drama that my dear friends in Genoa City have in one year, let alone a lifetime!
Let's take my favorite character Sharon Newman for example. In the past five years she has been married to Nicholas Newman, what a stud. They had two children, Cassie (from a previous relationship) and Noah. Cassie died in a car crash and while Sharon and Nick were mourning in their own ways, Nick had an affair with Phyllis (an evil, evil lady if you ask me). After she got over her relationship with Nick being finished, she dated Jack Abbott (Phyllis's ex). That didn't last long. Nick's long lost brother, Adam, came back into town like a tornado and disrupted every life in Genoa City. Sharon fell in love with Adam. They didn't wed because while they were in their early stages of love, Sharon and Nick had an affair! Sharon became pregnant with Nick's baby. Adam stole Sharon's baby right after she was born and faked that she, Faith, was stillborn. Sharon was committed to a psych ward. When Sharon was released she went back to Nick. Nick and Sharon were engaged. She had an affair with Adam, the baby stealer. Was charged with murder of Adam's wife, Skye. Escaped Jail and is now on the run.
So no, I am not jealous of her life in the least bet. But I'd pay biggggg bucks to be a guest star on Y&R :)
