Adam Rasmussen: Beauty in Television

The amount of stimuli you encounter when you watch TV these days is absolutely ridiculous. Every company is paying money to try and convince you to buy their product or try their fake diet program or workout scheme. Most of the time, these ads are bombarded with what society deems as beautiful people. Busty women wearing string bikinis is probably the most basic advertising used for everything from dating call services to vacation destinations to even work out machines. Its easy to understand why they do this, sex sells. Our society is obsessed with sex and the perfect body. Most of the actresses look like porn stars and probably couldn’t read a script if you wrote it phonetically. I believe that our society is overwhelmed with images that put unrealistic expectations in our minds. These expectations of a perfect girlfriend or boyfriend with a perfect body living a perfect life are unrealistic and lead people down the path of ultimate despair and misery. I think that the images that are purported by pop culture and our society, supposedly in the form of beauty, ultimately reduce our society and tarnish the real beauty that can be found all around us.
