Plato thought the art appeal to the emotions rather than the intellect. Plato also thought the things of the world tables, chairs, are not ultimately real. Because they come into being and pass away, because they admit change, and because they are not perfect instances of their kind, such things lack the complete reality that Forms, timeless and unchanging, enjoy (p. 13). Plato's theory of art is that it is an imitation of an imitation. There are 3 crafts: one that uses it, one that makes it, and one that imitates it.
