Benjamin Roseberry-Debate

Debate

So this debate on objective beauty went pretty well. I didn’t really want to have the debate at first because there is literally no way to win or lose it. It is like the argument for the existence of God or an objective morality. There can never be a definite yes or no, and noone is willing to settle with you on definitions for key words. As the research continued I realized that I really did enjoy the topic and looked forward to the debate because of just how fun it would be. I used Hume and Kant as my two primary Philosophers and used different Psychological studies in order to bring in different “proofs” for objective beauty. The main premises were that beautiful has to do with symmetry and an evolutionary desire for “green” things. Also, Plato’s Forms were used in order to understand beauty as something beyond perception. It ended pretty well and I think everyone understood beauty a bit more.
