Benjamin Roseberry-The Great Divorce

The Great Divorce
“Good beats upon the damned incessantly as sound waves beat on the ears of the deaf, but they cannot receive it.”
This is actually a very sad thought if it is true. CS Lewis is stating that some people are just very hardened to the idea of some type of higher power. Not only that but he is claiming that we need the higher power’s help, yet the damned do not want his help because they are prideful. They think they can do it on their own. Assuming that there is a higher power and that he is trying to get our attention, we should be willing to hear it. So that is where faith comes in I guess. Because even Lewis himself could be the damned, so locked up in his own thought that he is deaf. The true Truth could be beating upon his ears but he is not ready to listen and maybe “cannot” listen. But then again maybe he is right and is on to something.
